The Hong Kong Association of Business and Professional Women (HKABPW) was founded in 1979 following a visit to Hong Kong by a member of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (IFBPW). HKABPW is a registered society in Hong Kong and is affiliated with the IFBPW, which has more than 40,000 members in 80 countries, all working together to improve the status of women. IFBPW has United Nations Consultative Status and is one of the Project Five-O women’s organizations.
Any woman can join HKABPW who is a professional or entrepreneur or even if you are between occupations. HKABPW’s members come from a wide range of professional backgrounds and many join us specifically to network with other women in the business community. Whatever your profession, you will meet women in HKABPW that share your concerns and interests.
HKABPW organizes events and seminars - our activities include meals with guest speakers, self-development workshops, and business meetings. On an annual basis, we sponsor a bursary (scholarship fund) for young women majoring in a nontraditional field of study.
HKABPW reflects the cosmopolitan nature of Hong Kong. Our membership is truly international and although our main language of communication is English, many of our members speak a variety of European and Asian languages, including Cantonese and Mandarin. The aims of the association are:
- To promote the interests of business and professional women through a variety of business functions and professional development activities
- To stimulate and encourage in women a realization and acceptance of their responsibilities to the community
- To promote friendship, cooperation, and understanding amongst women
- To encourage women to acquire education and training and to use their skills and intelligence for their own and others' development
- To work for the removal of all forms of discrimination and for equal opportunities, status and remuneration for women in economic, civil and political life
- To promote excellence in performance and ethics in business and the professions

Membership
What does your membership fee pay for?
Part of your membership fees goes toward the HKABPW Annual Bursary Fund, which sponsors young women majoring in non-traditional fields of study. Many of our members are senior executives holding positions in traditionally male-dominated professions. We also pay dues to BPW International (IFBPW) – (also known as BPW International).
Mentoring Program
HKABPW members can participate in the Mentoring Program as either mentors or protégés.
- At HKABPW we believe the role of a mentor plays an important part in our personal and professional growth.
- All HKABPW members come from diverse professions and backgrounds and have valuable life and work experience, skills and knowledge to share in a significant way.
- In actively participating in the Mentoring Program, we encourage partnership amongst professional women that nurtures long-term friendship.
