Creating Opportunities for Leadership Development: A Panel Discussion
November 2nd, The Helena May

OUR SPEAKERS

Aileen Bridgewater hosted Hong Kong's longest running Talk-Show on the English Channel of Commercial Radio. Some of the people she has interviewed in her travels around the world are Princess Diana, Rajiv Gandhi, Peter Ustinov and the Dalai Lama in his Himalayan refuge in India.

Quince Chong is the Director for Service Delivery for Cathay Pacific Airways. She oversees all aspects of meeting the needs of Cathay’s customers. Quince has also managed 5,600 cabin crew as the General Manager for Inflight Services. She is also the Chairman of the Hong Kong Association for Customer Service Excellence. Quince is a member and supporter of HKABPW.

Deborah Zingg is currently 1st Vice President, Fundraising for The American Women’s Association of Hong Kong. She also works as a substitute teacher at Hong Kong International School. Deborah has spent most of her career in education. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, Deborah was an upper primary teacher at Zurich International School. Deborah also taught in Los Gatos, California. She holds an M.A. in Education and a B.A. in Liberal Studies, from Biola University.

Winnie Chui, is the District Commander of Western District of the Hong Kong Police Force. She joined the Force in 1983 as a Probationary Inspector and has risen through the ranks to Chief Superintendent of Police. She has worked in various posts in the Uniform Branch as well as the Criminal Investigation Department. Ms. Chiu holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration.

"Women in Leadership - Forging Ahead"

A panel of three leading women from a range of industries will discuss their experiences, explore challenges and share their strategies to advance the movement of women as leaders in Hong Kong.

Our Speaker Panel includes:

Joanna D’Ettorre Leung - Director, Academic and Continuing Education Ltd (ACE). Joanna operates her own company assisting Hong Kong students find rewarding courses in overseas institutions. Joanna has extensive executive experience in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea in international business development. She was involved in the founding of HKABPW during her tenure as Director of the Hong Kong Council of Women.

Susanna Li - HR Director, McDonald's Restaurants (HK) Ltd. Susanna joined McDonald's as a part-time staff in 1987 and worked her way to her current position through a range of managerial positions. In 1998, she took up the challenge as a visiting professor in the McDonald's Hamburger University in the US for 18 months. In her role as Training Manager in 2000, she implemented several cultural change programs including the New Restaurant Management Curriculum from 2000-2002.

Helen Or - Director, Explorer Associates, Helen has substantial experience in organization development and performance improvement, including 10 years of consultancy. She worked for Booz Allen Hamilton in Singapore and Shanghai and Spencer Stuart & Associates as Associate Director from 2001-2004. This further led to her role as an independent management consultant.

Moderator: Molly Lim - National Director, Profiles of Hong Kong Ltd - a HR consulting company specializing in training, business development and executive coaching. Molly is the Immediate Past President of HKABPW and is also active in community programs for youth development in Hong Kong.

The following issues will be discussed:

  • Women as Leaders?
  • What are the challenges they face in their roles?
  • Moving forward - how do CEOs and HR directors set in place initiatives to develop high potential women within their organizations?
  • How could the individual prepare herself for the move forward?

HKABPW Annual Donation
Each year, HKABPW makes a donation to a special women’s charity project or projects in support of work among grass root women in Hong Kong. This year, members were invited to nominate charities of their projects. A number of worthy nominations were received. After consideration, the Executive Committee has decided to donate $10,000 each to HER Fund in support of its fundraising efforts and SCI in support of its education programs.

Representative from each agency will be at AGM for cheque presentation. For further details on both charities, please read attached document.

“Celebrating Partnerships”

What role does partnership play in successful businesses? What are the pitfalls to look out for when forming any partnership? How do partnerships help associations that work towards the community at large? How does a mentoring partnership encourage and drive the mentee towards positive changes in the professional and personal arena?

Our esteemed panel participants included the following charismatic, successful and enterprising women:

Pauline Cousins, Managing Director, Crown Asset Management Ltd.: Pauline has been in the financial sector for 25 years, and formed Crown Asset Management Ltd. in 1993, a privately owned financial services company offering advice and services to expatriates.

Kate Mead, Past President of HKABPW - Kate Mead has been a Hong Kong resident for 30 years, born and educated in Australia. She recently retired from her posts as Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor with the English Department at the HK Polytechnic University. Kate is a founding member of HKABPW.

Celia Ho, Legal Affairs Manager, Pfizer Corporation Hong Kong Limited - Celia recently advanced in her legal career from a solicitor in a US international firm to the Legal Affairs Manager at Pfizer.

Moyreen Tilbrook was the moderator for the panel. Moyreen has lived and worked in Hong Kong since 1965 and is a founding member and the second president of HKABPW.
