LEADERSHIP SEMINAR
How real are generational differences in the workplace?
Wednesday, January 11th

As business professionals, we work with all kinds of people – many of whom come from different generations. Everybody knows that the “generation gap” between younger and older persons causes stress and frustration. But how real are the differences? Or are the differences people complain about all just one big misunderstanding?

Jennifer Deal Ph.D studies the issues involving differences among the generations currently in the workplace (Silents, Baby Boomers and Xers): what they want at work, what they want to learn, how they want to learn, and how they relate to other members in an organisation.

For Example:

  • What do we need to do to retain younger employees? Do older employees actually hate change?
  • What do younger people want to learn?
  • Do younger people want all development through their computers?
  • Why do younger people dress so informally at work?
  • What can we do about the feeling of entitlement among younger employees?
  • What can we do about the feeling of entitlement among older employees?
  • Why are younger people so disrespectful?
  • Why don’t younger people have any loyalty to their organisation?
  • Do older people have any interest in learning?
  • Why don’t our employees trust management? Is it a generational thing?
  • Who wants coaching?
  • What do younger people want in their leaders? Is it any different from what older people want?

Speaker - Jennifer Deal Ph.D, a research scientist for the Center for Creative Leadership in San Diego, California. Jennifer’s work concentrates on global leadership and managing the Emerging Leaders project. She has published articles on a number of different topics including generational issues, working globally, executive selection, and women in management. Jennifer is one of the authors from the Center for Creative Leadership’s recent book on global leadership, - “Success for the New Global Manager.” She is currently working on a book focused on generational differences in the workplace. She holds a BA from Haverford College, and a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from The Ohio State University.

BUSINESS EXPANSION VIA PERSONAL GROWTH
The Art of Growing Your Business
Thursday, January 19th

Businesses do not develop on their own. Businesspeople need to be able to generate new leads instead of relying on current clientele lists for business expansion. The need for professionals to grow with their business is the aim of this talk.

People skills are critical for business development and the Mentoring Program is proud to present a workshop with Mr. Paul Stefansson, Regional Director, Corporate Relations, ipac Financial Planning, Asia. To kick off 2006, we are delighted to have ipac Financial Planning as our first event sponsor.

Whether you are a CEO, an employee, business owner, or entrepreneur, promoting your company or yourself is key to attracting new clients. Selling derives easily from effective marketing of self and your company’s products and services. The ability to influence, negotiate and persuade takes personalities and skills, both of which are perfectible and attainable.

Paul Stefansson will share with us practical tips and strategies on generating business leads through:

  • Self-marketing (including getting free media attention)
  • Networking
  • Great Client Service
  • Building Solid Client Relationships

Speaker - Paul Stefansson has 20+ years of financial services experience and is a prolific speaker. Paul frequently presents throughout Asia and has spoken at the Law Society of Singapore, the Hong Kong Law Society, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Asia Pacific Financial Planning Conference, Global Financial Planning Conference (Malaysia) and the International CFP Forum (Taiwan). Paul is currently serving the FPAS (Financial Planning Association of Singapore) as President.

Paul is also a highly sought-after media commentator on Asia's burgeoning wealth management industry and has been featured in CNBC, The Straits Times, Business Times, Smart Investor, The Edge, Fundsupermart Magazine, The Asia Financial Planning Journal and on News Radio.
