Feng Shui Office Enhancement and Casual Networking Evening

Friday, 7th October 2005

aThe Chinese concept of career is very much related to prestige and academic success. Most of us want recognition. We will achieve this through our work. Feng Shui is a technique for engineering your Earth Luck. It is not just a psychological boost or a form of interior decorating, but it is a way of causing more opportunities to ‘happen to you’. If you’d rather stay in bed than go to the office today or you have days when you walk into the office and immediately sense something in the atmosphere, maybe it’s time to reassess your office environment.

Mix and mingle with Members and Friends and enjoy an interactive evening talk on “Feng Shui Office Enhancement” with Jill Lander of Golden Elements.

Jill Lander (F.S.S.A) frequently offers insightful and enlightening talks on all aspects of Feng Shui. Residing in Hong Kong for the past 28 years, Jill has gained a wealth of knowledge and her expertise has taken her to many parts of Asia including Singapore and Malaysia and China where of course Feng Shui is a living, breathing science. A graduate of the Yap Cheng Hai Feng Shui Centre of Excellence and a registered accredited practitioner of the Feng Shui Society UK, spreading the word and releasing the ‘mystery’ that has been attached to Feng Shui is a priority to Jill. This is apparent through her generous and unique teaching skills within the variety of classes she holds on a regular basis from the foundation course to advanced practices.

HKABPW Annual General Meeting
Wednesday, November 16th

The 26th Annual General Meeting of HKABPW was held on November 16th with a new team of ExCo members elected in (link to “About HKABPW, Executive Committee”). It was a very inspiring and moving evening with Past Presidents, members and friends all gathered together to elect the ExCo and at the same time to enjoy a panel sharing their experiences and ideas on “Women in Leadership – Forging Ahead”.

A panel of three leading women from a range of industries will discuss their experiences, explore challenges and share their strategies to advance the movement of women as leaders in Hong Kong.

Helen Or, Director of Explorer Associates, opened the panel with her comments that leadership is not gender base or bias, but rather it is across levels and at different levels. Having said that, she also shared her personal experience, which opened her eyes to the perception of leadership and gender.

Susanna Li, from McDonald’s Restaurant, talked about her experience in McDonald’s and how she moved from crew to HR Director. She found that challenges to leadership often come from stereotyping – by ourselves, the community and the workplace. Overcoming this stereotyping is one of the biggest challenges she has found and which she has successfully overcome.

Joanna D’Ettorre Leung, Director of Academic and Continuing Education, shared her views and research on how women can prepare for leadership to forge ahead. It is not just academic excellence that prepares a person for leadership, but involvement through community services that helps to give the person a more rounded development that can prepare them for leadership roles.

The panel is an indication of the programs to come for 2006, which carries the theme: “Empowering Women through Creative Leadership”. Our programs will continue to explore this theme, which also supports BPW International’s theme “New Dimensions in Leadership”.

The evening also saw the awarding of two grants to HER Fund and SCI (Society for Cultural Integration) to support their work towards the development of grass roots women and girls.
