APEC Women Leaders' Network

 

With its first launch in Manila , the Philippines in 1996, the APEC Women Leaders’ Network Meeting (APEC-WLN) has been held ninth times in such venues as the Philippines (1996), Canada (1997), Malaysia (1998), New Zealand (1999), Brunei Darus-salam (2000), People's Republic of China (2001), Mexico (2002), Thailand (2003), and Chile (2004).

APEC-WLN is a network of influential women leaders from 21 member economies working in government, business, academia and civil society organizations, with a purpose to raise women issues and priorities and have them reflected in APEC programs and policies.

WLN also adopts recommendations by collecting ideas of women representatives to submit them to the APEC Ministerial Meeting and APEC Economic Leaders' Meetings. With its focus on the economic cooperation within the region and the networking among women leaders, WLN has sustained interest in trade and investment, SMEs, Microenterprises, women's participation, gender integration, etc.

Thailand hosted the 8th WLN Meeting and the Office of Women's Affairs and Family Development, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security were designated to organize the APEC WLN Meeting 2003. The Chair of the WLN committee is Associate Professor Juree Vichit-Vadakan.

For the 2003 WLN, BPW Thailand was one of the main organisers. A few HKABPW ExCo members were part of the delegation from Hong Kong which was led by the Women's Commission and the Honourable Sophie Leung.
